Voyage to Venus (originally published as Perelandra) is the second book in C.S. Lewis’ Cosmic Trilogy. Compared to the other two in the trilogy, this one best fits the mold of a ‘proper’ allegory/5(4). Published the same year as Jules Verne's classic From the Earth to the Moon and Henri de Parville's An Inhabitant of the Planet Mars, Achille Eyraud's Voyage to Venus () was the first novel to describe an interplanetary rocket-powered spaceship.

Eyraud supports his design with an elaborate (but ultimately flawed) pseudo-scientific argument and describes its cosmic/5.

Description of the book "Perelandra: [Voyage to Venus]": The second novel in Lewis's science fiction trilogy tells of Dr Ransom's voyage to the planet of Perelandra (Venus). In the second novel in C.S. Lewis's classic science fiction trilogy, Dr Ransom is called to the paradise planet of Perelandra, or Venus, which turns out to be a beautiful.

I wonder if the book’s other title, VOYAGE TO VENUS, was chosen in homage to David Lindsay’s novel.

I had in the days of my distant youth read David Lindsay’s A VOYAGE TO ARCTURUS, while in no way understanding the heavily-disguised symbolic point of that strangely haunted, abundantly imaginative, and ultimately nihilistic work, nor did I.

Hardly has a recording been sent to Earth for expert interpretation before a mysterious gong is heard in the space liner, followed by further nerve-shattering notes until, abruptly, the space liner is utterly destroyed.

The theme of the book is a re-telling of the "Fall" of Adam and Eve using Venus (called Perelandra) as the setting. You can tell that C. Lewis was really "feeling" the prose as he wrote this and his passion for the work was evident throughout. I thought it read like lush poetry that was both powerful and emotional.4/5(K).
