The company was formally chartered in July of , and its road was completed in The service area of the ANCRR ran from Morehead City to Goldsboro, where it connected with tracks of the North Carolina Railroad Company (NCRR). The Stockholders of the "Western North-Carolina Railroad Company convened in general meeting in the Town of Morganton, N. C., this day at 11 o'clock—when on motion of R. C. Pearson, Esq., George F. Davidson, Esq., was appointed Chairman, and on motion, the meeting was further organized by the appointment of Samuel McD.
